Darlene and Jason - August 26, 2006

This Saturday I spent the day photographing the wedding of Darlene and Jason. This young and friendly couple was great fun to work with and it showed in their photos.

The day began with Darlene getting ready in the West Harvest Inn - the hotel where the couple's ceremony and reception were held. Here, Darlene gets a little help from her maid of honour, Holly.

Soon after, the couple exchanged vows in front of their friends and family.

Jason plants a kiss on this beautiful new bride.

After the ceremony, we headed to the Royal Alberta Museum for formals. The couple shares a moment with the museum in the background.

It's hard to take a bad portrait of a bride as lovely as Darlene.

The museum grounds are loaded with sunflowers. They made a good backdrop for a shot of the rings.

Shortly after returning to the hotel, Darlene took a break in the pub.

The head table featured a pretty unique candle that just had to be photographed. How cool is that?

After a festive evening of dinner and speeches, the newlyweds enjoyed their first dance.

Thank you for letting me be a part of your special day, Darlene and Jason - I had a lot of fun. You're a great couple destined for a long and happy marriage.

Chylynne and Harry - August 19, 2006

Yesterday, I spent the afternoon and early evening photographing the union of Chylynne and Harry. This fun young couple tied the knot in Shalom Park (near Rabbit Hill just outside of Edmonton).

Although the sky looked a tad ominous at times, the rain stayed at bay allowing the ceremony to take place outside. Below, the couple seal their marriage with a kiss.

Here, the lovely bride Chylynne poses for a portrait in front of the man made lake at Shalom Park.

As you can see, the beautiful bride and bridesmaids were all business and very focused on a serious photo session.

Harry dips his new bride amongst the flowers in the park.

Congratulations Chylynne and Harry - your wedding was alot of fun. I wish you all the best now and in the future.

Petra and Syed - Engagement Session

Early this week Petra, Syed, and I spent a pleasant evening doing an engagement session on the legislative grounds. This fun couple is schedule to be married in May of 2007.

The weather was beautiful. The temperature in the low twenties and the sky bright and sunny.

Here, Petra and Syed share a moment in the late evening light.

Thanks for the enjoyable session, you two. And thanks for the advice about our new cat. I look forward to photographing your special day next May.

A New Member of the Family

Last Monday, the family unit of Janna and I grew by a single, pint sized member. An orange tabby that Janna named Timmy became part of our home (and now owns it - more or less).

At just six weeks old, this little guy fits nicely in the palm of one's hand. But don't let his size fool you - his energy and need for attention definately make him formidable.

As any good photographer would, I ensured I got some good snaps of Timmy in his baby days. He's definately not camera shy and often prefers to investigate the shiny piece of glass pointed in his direction.

Though Janna has owned a cat, I never have so this is quite a learning experience for me. So far, I've learned that he sees me as a very comfortable bed and enjoys relentlessly attacking my fingers. He's so darn cute though it's hard to do anything but laugh at his antics.

Kari and Rene - August 5, 2006

On Saturday, I had the privilege of shooting Kari and Rene's wedding day from start until finish. With the help of some ideal weather, a fun group of family and friends, and some lovely venues, a great time was had by all.

Bridal preparation began at Rita's Hair Design in St. Alberta at 8:30 am. Below, Kari has her veil attached for the day.

Once Kari and all of her bridesmaids had their hair and makeup done, we headed to her parent's place so the ladies could dawn their dresses. This is Kari in her mother's room a few minutes before we left for the ceremony.

The ceremony was held in the Stanley Milner Theatre in downtown Edmonton. The lighting was dramatic and quite photogenic.

After a very emotional exchance of personal vows (I might've had something in my eye as it was going on), Rene wasted no time in sealing the deal with his lovely bride.

Once the ceremony finished, the wedding party and various family members paraded out from the theatre into Sir Winston Churchill square. We shot a few formals there and in front of city hall before heading to the Muttart Conservatory and Royal Museum grounds for more photos.

The reception was held at the Executive Royal Inn on the west end of the city. Everyone in attendance truly wanted to celebrate the wedding - it didn't take long for a great party to break out. Below, Rene lifts his bride and plants a kiss while the crowd applauds.

As the couple shared their first dance, it was easy to see the love these newlyweds felt for each other.

Congratulations you two and thank you for allowing me the opportunity to record your special day. Your wedding was wonderful event and your marriage will be no less spectacular.

Melissa and Colin - August 4, 2006

On Friday, I was tasked with the ceremony and formal shoot of Colin and Melissa's wedding. By the time I left Edmonton, rain was falling in buckets. A little bit of drizzle isn't much of a problem but this was the type of rain that made short work of wedding dresses and camera equipment.

Fortunately, Colin's parents own a beautiful home on a small farm east of Leduc. The living room was quite photogenic and allowed us to shoot alot of the formals under the protection of a ceiling.

The ceremony took place in a cozy little country church. The couple exchanged their vows with loving smiles in front of a crowd of family and friends. Below, Colin and Melissa exit arm in arm.

After the ceremony the rain let up. Despite a very wet ground and a formidably cool and brisk wind, we shot a few outdoor formals before heading to the Leduc Civic Center for a few more indoor shots.

Though the weather wasn't ideal, this couple persisted and enjoyed the day in laid back fashion. Congratulations Colin and Melissa! I'll keep my fingers crossed that your week long honeymoon brings you great weather and continued happy memories.

PhotoAlberta.ca Reaches South

Until recently I knew very little about Kentucky. Apparently though, it contains prairie land that looks a lot like Alberta. So close, in fact, that a monthly news and recreation publication out of Kentucky called Kentucky Monthly made arrangements to use one of my images on their cover.

Despite the fact that this particular track shot was taken about 30 minutes east of Edmonton, I suspect that they thought it'd make a scenic endorsement of the lead story in the magazine (which has to do with Kentucky's rail system). I'm glad they picked it. No matter how many times one has been published, magazine covers never cease to make a photographer happy.

On another note, I'll be shooting weddings both Friday and Saturday this long weekend. I'll try and make some blog entries on them sometime Sunday.
